The idea
Before the surgical scrub, the head covering, mask and eye protection are put on, because they cannot be adjusted afterward.
In practice
Hands should be clean on entering the operating area, washed with plain soap; the mask is checked to cover the nose and mouth.
Where people slip
Once the scrub begins, scrubbed hands touch nothing unsterile.
