The idea
Triage means evaluating how urgent a caller's need is, so that care is prioritized correctly.
In practice
Calls can be sorted into emergencies, urgent conditions as the provider defines them, and acutely ill patients, using the practice's triage guidelines and protocols.

Follow the provider's written protocols exactly; when in doubt, involve the provider or nurse.
