Building a Prompt From Its Elements
The idea
A work prompt can be built in four steps, one per element, in the order the DAIR.AI guide's tips suggest, and the result is easier to check and to reuse.
In practice
Step one: write the instruction first, with a clear command verb: summarize, classify, extract or draft. Step two: add the context the model cannot know: who the output is for, what they will do with it, and any facts it must respect. Step three: paste the input material below a clear separator, the real text rather than your paraphrase of it. Step four: state the output format: the structure, the length, and what to do when the material does not contain an answer.
Where people slip
A complete prompt still produces a draft, not a verified answer. The checking stage in unit one's working pattern applies to every output, however well the prompt was built.
