Generative AI at Work / Unit 9 GAI 214 review, 2 to 3 minutes
Capstone One: A Policy Summary
The idea
The first capstone, constructed for this course, runs one everyday task through units three to six: an operations manager summarizing a revised safety procedure for warehouse staff.
In practice
First, the fit and the stakes. A summary for a known audience suits AI, but the procedure concerns forklift safety, so the review level is high: the manager will check every claim, and the safety lead will approve the result. Second, the prompt. The instruction comes first: summarize for warehouse staff. The context says the readers are new and experienced operators, reading on a break-room screen. The full revised procedure is pasted below a separator. The format asks for the changes first, then the unchanged rules staff most often get wrong, in plain language, under two hundred and fifty words. The grounding line says to use only the procedure and to list anything unclear as a question. Third, the checks. Before reading the draft, the manager lists what it must contain: all four changes. The draft has three. The missing one is a new rule about pedestrians in loading bays, which the draft folded into a general line about keeping aisles clear. Claim by claim, one more problem appears: the draft says speed limits were reduced, but the procedure reduced them only in the loading bays. Fourth, the decision. The manager corrects both points, answers the draft's one open question with the safety lead, and sends it for approval. It goes out marked as drafted with AI and checked against the procedure, and the log records the two corrections.
Where people slip
Both errors softened a safety rule into something more general and more comfortable. Neither looked wrong. The missing-item check found the first, and the claim-by-claim check found the second. With safety at stake, the procedure was worth its time.
