Checking Claim by Claim
The idea
Claim-by-claim checking turns the marks of high-integrity information into a procedure that works on any generated text.
In practice
Step one: list every claim the output makes, one per line: facts, figures, names, dates, citations and conclusions. Step two: label each one as fact, opinion or inference. Step three: for each fact, find its source, either in material you supplied or in an outside source you trust. Step four: mark each fact as confirmed, corrected, or unsupported, and remove or rewrite anything unsupported. Step five: for each inference, check that the facts it rests on are confirmed and that the conclusion actually follows from them.
Where people slip
The procedure feels slow for a short output and saves the most time on a long one. Skipping the listing step is how the claim that matters gets missed.
