When Answers Disagree
The idea
When two generated answers to the same question disagree, the disagreement is useful information, and resolving it follows a set order.
In practice
Step one: identify exactly where the answers differ, and which claims they share. Step two: go to the source for each point of disagreement; do not ask the model to pick. Step three: if the source settles it, correct the output and note the fix. Step four: if the source does not settle it, treat the question as open and take it to a person with the authority to answer it, then record the answer.
Where people slip
Asking the model which answer is right adds a third opinion, not evidence. The shared claims still need checking too, because agreement can hide a common error.
