The idea
The method's second defence is involving domain experts, and NIST's framework lists domain experts among the people who should inform AI work, because they hold the context that generated text lacks.
In practice
Step one: decide which outputs need an expert, using the stakes and the domain: anything clinical, legal, financial or safety-related. Step two: give the expert the output and the sources together, with the specific claims you could not confirm marked. Step three: ask the expert to check meaning and practice, not spelling, which you can check yourself. Step four: record what the expert changed and why.
Where people slip
Expert time is scarce, so do the mechanical checks first. An expert should spend time on judgment, not on catching a wrong date.
