Recording What You Checked
The idea
The method asks teams to record where AI was used to draft or revise important documents, and NIST's provenance guidance points the same way: a record lets reviewers see how a document came to be.
In practice
Step one: note that AI was used, which tool, and for which parts. Step two: note what was checked, against which sources, and by whom. Step three: note what was corrected and why, in a sentence or two. Step four: keep the note with the document itself, where a later reader, reviewer or auditor will find it without having to ask anyone.
Where people slip
A record of checks that were not done is worse than no record. Write down only what actually happened, including what was not checked.
