Splitting a Big Task
The idea
The DAIR.AI guide advises breaking a big task into simpler subtasks and building up, rather than asking for everything in one prompt.
In practice
Step one: list the parts of the job, for example extract the key facts, then draft the summary, then check it against the facts. Step two: write one prompt per part, each with its own instruction and format. Step three: run them in order, feeding each result into the next prompt, and read each result before passing it on. Step four: assemble the final product yourself from the checked parts, so that a person decides what the final version says.
Where people slip
Splitting makes each step checkable, which is its real value. An error passed along unread spreads through every later step.
