Generating Scenarios
The idea
The method's scenario pattern asks for a small set of realistic situations built from a definition or policy, useful for training, testing and walkthroughs.
In practice
Step one: paste the definition or rules the scenarios must follow. Step two: ask for a small number, such as three, involving typical use. Step three: for each scenario, ask for the context, meaning who, where and why, the key data values, and the decisions or rules that apply. Step four: require that at least one scenario is an edge case or tricky situation. Step five: check each scenario against the rules before using it.
Where people slip
Scenarios can quietly break the rules they are meant to illustrate. A training example that teaches the wrong rule is worse than no example.
