The AI Feature Gate
The idea
The M-CaReM-AI method proposes a gate that every AI feature must pass before it is built, and calls it the one step to take if a team does nothing else for AI governance.
In practice
Step one: name what the AI reads: which documents, records and data it will see. Step two: name what it writes or influences: which records, decisions, statuses or notices its output can change. Step three: name how its outputs are reviewed, by whom, and before what happens. Step four: draw the boundary between what the AI suggests and what the system decides, and confirm that nothing with consequences crosses it without a person.
Where people slip
The gate is the method's judgment, not a regulation. Its value is that it forces the three questions to be answered before the feature exists, when changing the answer is cheap.
