The AI Safety Lead
The idea
The M-CaReM-AI method proposes a cross-cutting role, an AI Safety Lead or AI steward, responsible for AI risk across projects. The method places this role alongside the owners of each area, not above them.
In practice
Step one: for every AI initiative, the lead asks which core records and definitions it touches. Step two: the lead asks which reference documents the AI is grounded in. Step three: the lead confirms which traceability records must be updated when the AI's work changes something. Step four: the lead checks that AI features are not quietly redefining core terms or records, by reviewing proposed features against the feature gate.
Where people slip
The role works only with real authority and time. Added on top of a full job, it becomes a name on a chart rather than a check on the work.
