The idea
Energy coupling pairs ATP hydrolysis with an endergonic reaction, often by phosphorylation — transferring ATP's terminal phosphate onto another molecule.
In practice
The sodium-potassium pump from Bio 0362 is phosphorylated by ATP, and that transfer drives the conformational change moving sodium and potassium.
