The idea
Explain the test and obtain the patient's verbal consent; a patient may refuse a blood test at any time before it is drawn.
In practice
If the patient is anxious or afraid, reassure them and ask what would make them more comfortable.
Where people slip
A patient who withdraws consent is not touched. Tell the provider.
