Where Blood Is Usually Drawn

The idea
The most common venipuncture sites are the large veins in the bend of the elbow, the antecubital area.
In practice
The median cubital vein is usually the easiest to puncture; the basilic vein runs near an artery and a nerve, so a puncture there carries more risk.
Where people slip
Do not insert the needle where veins branch, because that raises the chance of a hematoma.
