Medical Assistant Prep / Unit 19 MAS 457 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Medications That Matter for a Draw
Captions available
The idea
Ask about medications before a blood draw, especially those that affect bleeding.
In practice
Patients on anticoagulants or antiplatelet drugs may bleed longer afterward; some tests also require the provider's instructions about which medications to hold.
Where people slip
Never tell a patient to stop a medication; that instruction comes from the provider.
