The idea
A calm, informed patient makes a safer blood draw.
In practice
Explain each step before you do it, ask the patient to tell you if they feel faint, and watch their face and color throughout.
Where people slip
If the patient becomes lightheaded, release the tourniquet, remove the needle, and help them lie down, then tell the provider.
