The idea
At Stalingrad on the Volga, fighting from late forty-two ended with the German army surrounded in November and surrendered in February forty-three, nearly a million Axis casualties. At Kursk that summer nine thousand Soviet tanks beat Blitzkrieg. The USSR broke the Wehrmacht's back, the anchor says.
In practice
Alamein's three hundred thousand against Stalingrad's two million.
Where people slip
The anchor's "Black Sea" is corrected.
