The idea
Into nineteen forty-two the Axis still advanced: Rommel toward Suez, Japan across the Pacific. Then Midway in June cost Japan four carriers it could not replace. At El Alamein in October Montgomery pushed Rommel back, and Torch landed Americans in Vichy North Africa in November.

Industrial capacity to rebuild was the point of Midway.
