Italy Changes Sides, and the Resistance

Captions available

The idea

In July nineteen forty-three the king dismissed Mussolini and Italy made peace; Germany seized the north and set Mussolini over a puppet republic. Resistance grew across occupied Europe: Tito's partisans tied down thirty-five German divisions in Yugoslavia, Soviet partisans numbered perhaps a hundred fifty thousand.

In practice

Italian partisans shot Mussolini in April forty-five.
