Writing an Inventory Row

Captions available

The idea

The method's inventory row has six fields, and each one has a job.

In practice

Step one, name: use the noun people actually say, such as Eligibility Determination. Step two, type: say whether it is a data record, a document, a technical item or something else. Step three, short description: one or two sentences in business language. For example, a decision about eligibility for a specific program, under a specific policy version, at a point in time. Step four, primary zone: fill this in once the zones exist. Step five, importance: core, supporting, external or legacy only. Step six, notes: record synonyms, ambiguities and quick comments, such as "the reporting team calls this an outcome".

Where people slip

Rough is fine. A row that is concrete enough to argue about has done its job.
