The Session: Framing and Definition
The idea
The book's seventy-five minute review session begins with framing and with the thing's purpose and definition.
In practice
Step one, five to ten minutes of framing: say that the group is testing whether this description of the Incident Report is accurate enough to build on, not designing the system. Set ground rules. Stay on this one thing; it depends and I'm not sure are welcome; disagreements will be captured. Step two, ten to fifteen minutes on purpose and definition: show them, and ask whether people would explain the thing to a new colleague this way, what is missing, and what they disagree with. Adjust live or note the changes until the group is mostly comfortable.
Where people slip
Aim for that's basically right, not for nobody having any questions left. A definition that satisfies everyone completely in a first session usually means people were not listening.
