The M-CaReM-AI Method: Defining Work for AI / Unit 5 MCM 117 worked example, 60 to 90 seconds
Thinking in Change-Type Slices
The idea
The method finds a thing's cards by slicing it through each change type in turn.
In practice
Step one: ask what it means to create one, and who may. Step two: ask how people view, search and list it. Step three: ask which updates matter, such as closing, reassigning or editing sensitive fields, and give each important update its own card. Step four: ask when it may be archived or deleted, and write that card even if the answer is never. Step five: ask what is generated from it, such as letters or reports. Step six: ask how its changes are logged. Each answer becomes one or more cards, and a missing answer becomes a visible gap: we defined how to create a Case, but not how to archive it.
Where people slip
The slices give coverage. Without them, teams write cards for the behaviors people talk about, and miss the ones that only matter in an audit.
