Six Checks of a Good Card

Captions available

The idea

The book gives six checks for whether a card is reliable enough to use, without being perfect.

In practice

Step one, thing clarity: can you say in one word which thing it is about? Step two, change clarity: could you explain it to a developer in one sentence? Step three, property realism: do the fields match real forms, policies and data, and are the required flags reasonable? Step four, rule testability: could a tester write test cases straight from the rules, with edge cases at least hinted at? Step five, stakeholder recognition: does a frontline user or policy owner say yes, that is how it works, or point out what is missing? Step six, atomicity: is it one behavior?

Where people slip

A card that passes all six is good enough for design, validation and AI work. Either answer to the fifth check is valuable, because a correction found now is cheap.
