Do People Feel Safe?

The idea

The book's distrust chapter ends with five diagnostic questions about whether people feel safe with their leader.

In practice

Step one: when did someone last bring you a mistake voluntarily, and what did your response teach them? Step two: do people share concerns openly, or save honest opinions for conversations you are not in? Step three: if asked privately and anonymously whether they trust you, what would your team say? Step four: are your words and actions consistent, or are there gaps your team has learned to navigate around? Step five: when information is uncertain, do you share what you know, or wait for certainty?

Where people slip

The book's matching practice: identify one relationship where distrust may have taken root and take one honest step toward repair, knowing a single conversation cannot erase distrust but can interrupt it.
