Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 20 TSC 491 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Loading the Needle Holder
Captions available
The idea
A needle is loaded in the needle holder's jaws at a right angle to the instrument, gripped about a third of the way back from the swage.
In practice
The grip is firm but gentle, and the loaded holder is passed ready for immediate use.
Where people slip
Loading at the swage risks pulling off the suture and lets the needle rotate in the jaws.
