Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 20 TSC 493 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Ligatures and Suture Ligatures
Captions available
The idea
A ligature is a suture tied around a vessel to stop it bleeding, often after it has been clamped.
In practice
Small vessels can seal on their own, but larger vessels usually need surgical control; clamps hold them while they are tied or sealed.
Where people slip
Have the next tie ready when the surgeon is clamping vessels in sequence.
