The idea
The surgical suite protects patients, but it also exposes the team to hazards of its own.
In practice
Federal workplace guidance lists them: blood and infectious disease, surgical smoke, waste anesthetic gases, chemicals, radiation, lasers, compressed gases, faulty equipment, slips and trips, and lifting injuries.
Where people slip
Each hazard has recognized controls, and the first protection is knowing which hazards a case brings.
