Captions available
The idea
Famines and inequality bred revolutions. America's launched the United States on a paradoxical model: political liberty beside slavery. France's built a model of democratic rights and equality, then split into factions. Haiti's was the most radical break, toppling colonial rule and slavery.
In practice
France's independence debt of eighteen twenty-five burdening Haiti.
Where people slip
Each challenged monarchical privilege and wealth's grip on power.
