The idea
Do not round until the final answer, and then round according to the practice's policy.
In practice
Adult oral liquids over one milliliter are typically rounded to the tenth; for children, amounts under one milliliter are rounded to the hundredth; drops are rounded to whole drops.
Where people slip
Precision matters most for children, where a small error is a large fraction of the amount.
