Generative AI at Work / Unit 9 GAI 209 worked example, 60 to 90 seconds
Public Services
The idea
The method's public-services playbook sets out where AI is safe and where it must stop, for agencies deciding people's eligibility for benefits and services.
In practice
Step one: AI may draft notice text from the fields of a recorded decision and an approved template, with the instruction not to change the meaning of any legal phrase. Step two: AI may flag missing information in an application, such as dependents mentioned but not listed. Step three: AI may summarize a case history for the human reviewer. Step four: AI must not decide eligibility, interpret the law, or set benefit levels without validated, human-approved rules. Step five: the case record shows which parts were drafted by AI and who made each decision.
Where people slip
The notice is what the applicant sees, so a drafting error lands on a person directly. That is why the legal-phrase constraint and the comparison against the decision fields are never skipped.
