November 1918: Armistice, Abdication, the Stab-in-the-Back Myth

Captions available

The idea

Sailors mutinied at Kiel, and on the ninth of November the Kaiser's abdication was announced; he crossed into the Netherlands. The Social Democrats' civilian government sent the delegation that signed the armistice on the eleventh. Hindenburg and Ludendorff authored the stab-in-the-back myth.

In practice

The alternative to the armistice was invasion.

Where people slip

The delegation's leader is disclosed, not named.
