Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 4 TSC 078 short lesson, about 20 seconds
The Airway
Captions available
The idea
Air reaches the lungs through a conducting zone: the nose, pharynx, larynx, trachea and bronchi.
In practice
The trachea is held open by stacked C-shaped pieces of cartilage; the conducting zone warms, humidifies and filters the air without exchanging gases.
Where people slip
Under general anesthesia, the anesthesia provider secures this airway with a breathing tube or another airway device.
