Sponge Sticks

Captions available

The idea

A sponge stick is a folded gauze sponge held in sponge forceps, used for blotting, prepping and gentle blunt dissection.

In practice

It reaches deep into a wound where fingers cannot, and the sponge on it is part of the sponge count.

Where people slip

When a sponge stick comes back, check that its sponge is still in the forceps.
