Keeping Instruments Clean on the Field

The idea
Instruments are wiped clean of blood and tissue during the case, so they work well and are easier to process afterward.
In practice
Dried blood is harder to clean, so instruments are kept moist and wiped; the electrosurgical tip is wiped with a sponge rather than scraped with a scratch pad.
Where people slip
Build-up on an electrosurgical tip increases resistance and can cause sparking.
