Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 20 TSC 486 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Needle Curvature
Captions available
The idea
Needles are curved in fractions of a circle, such as one-quarter, three-eighths or one-half, or they are straight.
In practice
A half-circle needle takes a short, deep bite in a confined space; flatter curves take larger, shallower bites; straight needles are used for some skin closure.
Where people slip
Curved needles are used in most general surgical procedures, so expect them unless the card says otherwise.
