Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 17   TSC 420 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Hands Within Sight

Captions available

The idea

Once gowned and gloved, the scrub person keeps the hands above the waist and within sight at all times.

In practice

Hands that fall below the waist are considered contaminated; resting hands are kept in front of the body at or above waist level.

Where people slip

If gloved hands drop below the waist, they are no longer considered sterile, and facility procedure decides the fix.
