From Room to Field

Captions available

The idea

A sterile field is set up whenever skin is intentionally cut or punctured, a body cavity is entered, or broken skin may be touched.

In practice

It involves hand antisepsis, sterile drapes and protective equipment, antiseptic skin preparation, and keeping the field sterile.

Where people slip

Prepping and draping turn the patient's body into part of the sterile field, so they follow the same strict rules.
