The idea
Movement within and around the sterile field is kept to a minimum and controlled, to avoid accidental contamination.
In practice
Sterile team members face the field and keep their hands in sight; nobody reaches over the field, and unsterile staff stay a safe distance away.
Where people slip
Most breaks happen during movement, not while people stand still.
