The idea
When hair must be removed from a surgical site, clippers are used instead of razors.
In practice
Clipping, or not removing hair at all, is associated with fewer surgical site infections than shaving.
Where people slip
Clipping is done outside the sterile field, and loose hair is cleared away before the skin is prepared.
