The idea
Open gloving is used when a sterile gown is not worn, such as for some bedside sterile procedures.
In practice
The bare hand touches only the inside of the first glove's cuff; the gloved fingers slide under the second glove's cuff to pull it on.
Where people slip
Hands stay above the waist throughout, and the gloves are checked for tears once they are on.
