Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 16   TSC 388 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Dispersive Pad Placement

Captions available

The idea

The dispersive pad is placed before draping, on a site chosen to carry electrical current safely out of the patient.

In practice

The best site is clean, dry, over a large well-vascularized muscle near the operative site, avoiding bone, scars, hair, metal implants and pressure points.

Where people slip

The circulating nurse documents where the pad was placed, so the skin there can be checked afterward.
