The Dispersive Pad
Captions available
The idea
The dispersive pad carries current safely out of the patient during monopolar electrosurgery.
In practice
It is placed on clean, dry skin over a large, well-vascularized muscle, close to the operative site, avoiding bony prominences, scars, hair, metal implants and pressure points.
Where people slip
A pad burn happens when heat under the pad is not dispersed, often because contact is poor.
