Sequential Compression Devices
Captions available
The idea
Sequential compression devices are sleeves on the legs that inflate in turn to help prevent blood clots.
In practice
The surgeon may order them for a surgery, or facility protocols may require them for longer operations; they continue after surgery as part of clot prevention.
Where people slip
They are applied before or at the start of the case, so they are part of the setup checklist.
