Smoke Evacuators as Room Equipment
Captions available
The idea
OSHA guidance calls for a smoke evacuator to be available in every operating room where surgical smoke is produced.
In practice
New tubing is used for each procedure, filters are replaced on the manufacturer's schedule, and the system is inspected regularly.
Where people slip
An evacuator that is present but switched off protects no one.
