The idea
Trendelenburg tilts the supine patient head down and feet up; reverse Trendelenburg tilts the head up and feet down.
In practice
Trendelenburg is used to improve visualization in pelvic and lower abdominal surgery; reverse Trendelenburg is used for upper abdominal and some neurosurgical procedures.
Where people slip
Tilting moves the patient's weight, so the patient is secured to prevent sliding.
