Lithotomy

Captions available

The idea

In the lithotomy position, the patient lies on their back with the legs raised and supported in stirrups.

In practice

It is used for gynecologic and urologic procedures, with the stirrups attached to the end of the operating table.

Where people slip

Stirrups are adjusted to give the right leg elevation and spread for this patient, and they are padded to protect the legs.
