Endospores Survive Boiling

The idea
Some bacteria can form endospores, dormant forms tough enough to survive boiling water and many chemicals.
In practice
Endospore formers include the bacteria behind tetanus, gas gangrene and botulism; a guideline ranks bacterial spores as the most resistant microbes, apart from prions.
Where people slip
That resistance is why sterilization must be proven to kill spores; boiling an instrument does not sterilize it.
