Tech in Surgery Prep / Unit 8 TSC 182 short lesson, about 20 seconds
After a Needlestick
Captions available
The idea
After a needlestick or splash of blood, the exposed area is cleaned at once and the injury is reported immediately.
In practice
Wash wounds with soap and water and flush exposed eyes, nose or mouth with water; the employer then provides a confidential medical evaluation.
Where people slip
Report every exposure, even one that seems minor, because treatment can be time-sensitive.
