Look-Alike, Sound-Alike

Captions available

The idea

Some medications have names that look or sound alike, and they are a known source of errors.

In practice

A national medication-safety organization keeps lists of these drugs and recommends tall man lettering, uppercase letters within names, to help tell similar names apart.

Where people slip

Read every label in full; a quick glance at the first few letters is how look-alike errors happen.
